How to generate income by selling what you know
Posted Under: General
I make instructional videos like the one above for business owners and their teams who are using our system to replace small business accounting software such as Quickbooks (the one above took me about an hour). I am amazed more people are not using this really easy way to turn what they know into content and start selling it through the internet to the connected market. Creating your own digital product is absolutely the best way to stay in control and make a higher margin as you legitimately stay in touch with your customers and use their feedback to refine what you have built and potentially sell more.
I hope you are aware of iTunes, but I bet you didn’t appreciate it is probably as significant to the progress of the Internet as the web browser in as much as it is a powerful way of accessing, downloading and organising video content. I am sometimes amazed at how well my target market of small business owners respond to the small business accounting software tutorials I regularly sell and distribute.
I cannot stress enough that the key to a good video is to use a technique called storyboarding, it sets out what you will say, how you will say it and helps you develop the detail of your ideas. If you are familiar with Microsoft powerpoint or apple keynote then you already have some of the skills you will need to get started making your first online video tutorial or presentation. I am a great believer in doing as much as is possible without spending any money what so ever and gaining confidence in your idea and making some money before you start, I call this getting the rope across the river.
The best tool I have found and used for producing video for podcast, YouTube and pc video format (Windows Media player or Quicktime) is Camtasia studio from a company called TechSmith, please watch their tutorials before downloading the free 30 day trial. My sound advice is to get your storyboard completed and watch all of the Camtasia Studio tutorials befor downloading the thirty day free trial as you want to make best use of this time to build your confidence and get your video to market.
OK the next step you should take is to discover the tools I have just talked about and in the next instalment which will appear on this blog (owner permitting) soon I will show you how to very detailed storyboard using my small business accounting software videos as a working example.
